Record challenge

Also called correction request · challenging your record · expungement

Definition

The procedure by which the subject of a record disputes the accuracy or completeness of information appearing on it.

Context

The right to challenge accompanies the right to obtain the record. Because entries originate with contributing agencies, a challenge frequently has to be pursued with the submitting agency as well as with the FBI.
