Update Policy
How often pages are reviewed, what triggers an out-of-cycle review, and what the dates on a page mean.
What the Dates Mean
| Date | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Published | When the page first appeared |
| Last updated | When the page was last substantively changed |
| Reviewed (on a source) | When a human last opened that source and confirmed the claims resting on it |
| Version (on a report) | Which iteration of a finding you are reading |
A page reviewed on a date is accurate as to that date. It makes no claim about any later date, and no automated process silently refreshes a review date without the review.
What Triggers a Review
- A change published by a cited authority.
- A destination acceding to, or changing its status under, the Apostille Convention.
- A reported correction that survives checking.
- A citation whose target has moved or been withdrawn.
- Scheduled review, so that a page is never left indefinitely on the assumption that nothing has changed.
